WOYWW #413 (with a long hiatus)

Making time for some WOYWW fun today, even though there isn't much for you to see.

If you want to see what everybody else is doing, just follow this link HERE to Julia's Stamping Ground blog. I can hardly wait to see what everyone else is up to today!

I'm tempted to title this post "A Blob and Some Bits" lolz. The blob is a mysterious chunk of gunk which I recently dislodged from the bottom of the jar it was inhabiting. I had to soak it in water for days in order for it to soften enough. The weird thing is that I still have no idea as to exactly what form of substance it was! The good news is that I now have a cleaned out art jar to fill with some other substance - this time with a waxed paper shield between the lid and the jar! It took forever to remove that stuck-on lid.

The hunk of mystery gunk or blob I posed at my cutting and punching station so you could see what it looks like:

Far from fascinating for the viewer, but it is what's on my work desk today. I guess I'll never figure out what that was. Heaven only knows!

The "Bits" are a few of the paper tiles that I made last month and that are shown in my most recent blog post here. I've replaced my Scrabble letters in order to add some more color and pizzazz to one part of my storage + display area. The rail is resting atop a tiny doll sized chest of drawers in which are kept small items used for collage.

Now to finally get to see what all of you have been up to!
:)

  1. Please let me know if you have problems with comments here. All of the ones left me by my guests in times past disappeared somehow. I can't fix it as they are all lost in cyber space. I truly hope this hasn't offended anybody before.

  2. Good evening - hmm... not sure whatever that blob can be - but at least you can get rid of it and use the jar for something useful. Well done.
    Take care. God bless.

    1. Good evening Margaret. Well, that is what I get for leaving my art materials untouched for about 1 year. Thankfully, some things are still fresh enough for use. the blob has to remain a mystery lolz

  3. Thank you for stopping by my place earlier. I like your scrabble rail; nice gift. So far no problems on posting a comment. Hope you don't loose it. I have lost comments when I didn't hit right button that says "publish" on my blog. I couldn't get the comments back. Thanks for the peek! #37

    2. Thanks for liking my scrabble rail. I like Scrabble! but being playful with its bits and bobs is even more fun. Comments are still acting a bit weird, although nothing too terrible has happened so far.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Shaz! My stencil technique is not what it ought to be. Those tiles are a bit sloppy. the edges are meant to be rough, but the lettering gave me fits! lolz

  5. Interesting Blob, maybe you could make it in to something Lol! Who knows what happens sometimes with comments but I'm sure people will understand. Thanks for the visit to mine, have a great crafty week and a happy woyww, Angela x14x

    1. Angela lolz I wondered the very same thing too! I once used an acrylic paint blob in a collage, but it was not as hefty as this blob is. This one is really heavy and a bit rough, which is how come I am wondering what concoction I mixed up and for what purpose. I'm always trying new things, so who can say? the darned thing's practically heavy enough to break a window, for pete's sake

    2. I wonder if it's solid enough to drill into it.....mmmm interesting thoughts!

    4. Hi Angela! Thanks for commenting again but especially for following me! It's nice when we can do that for each other, isn't it? :)
Thoughts on drilling....hmmmm it's kind of brittle, so i wonder if it'd shatter? I'm fresh out of anti-shattered-gunk safety goggles at the moment. Those were lost during a move a few years back, along with a few other precious bits. I haven't done trash duty today so far, so I know that i still have it where I left it. Plus I also own a nice drill that somebody generous gave to me years ago. Even if I were to drill a hole or holes into it with any real success, what on earth would I do with a hole-y hunk of gunk? LOLz Wish I had the right setup for assemblage art today like I once had.
The nice news is that spring cleaning is offering new and softer hunks of known substance gunk lolz. Now THOSE we know for certain I can use in a collage of some sort. Release paper + a dry iron and melt that stuff into other acrylic layering? Sure! Why not!

  6. If you return to what you were making when in time past, you were in the studio you may get the big "reveal" Then you must make a journal entry and glue it down.

    1. Hi Monica Lolz I like that - "the big reveal." That's so true, isn't it? It's a pretty thick blob of whatever, tho'. I thought it might be my homemade experimental gesso, but then I found that in a different jar which wasn't full. That dried out blob definitely cannot be glued down inside of any book. I've even wondered whether it couldn't be sculpted! And now on to better things known as spring cleaning the creative corner. Who knows what I might find in the next "big reveal"?

  7. Not sure about the blob - maybe some dried up glue? Glad you managed to get it out. I am pretty sure I'd be tempted just to chuck it out.

    1. Sharon Thanks for that suggestion. I may wind up chucking the gunk after all as it does seem pretty useless. Happy WOYWW for you too!

    1. Thanks Lindart! I do see it as gunk. But then even some kinds of gunk may be useful, right? Glad you like my letter tiles. That was a fun project too. I'm thinking of making a few more in future.
      Happy WOYWW!

    1. Thanks Chidkid! I ultimately took my own and everybody else's advice and chucked the gunk in the trash today. There simply wasn't any useful idea i could come up with for it. Today, tho', I did find some OTHER and useful gunk as I began to clear out a few more containers. i checked for freshness this afternoon, you see as a part of spring cleaning. Maybe in time for next week?

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Anne. I guess nobody will ever really know what that blob of gunk is all about lolz. Glad you like the letters. That project was in the post previous to this one, and was inspired by a video by Shemi Dixon.

    1. Hi there Sarah! Yeah - well, the blob's in the trash to stay. there's no redeeming value there lolz. I know what you mean about stuck on jar lids. Waxed paper is my best bet for these arthritic-y hands of mine. A friend of mine likes Vaseline on the edges of her jar lid openings, but I don't want to mix oil based and water based in the same jar. Thanks for liking my tiles! Please check my previous post for more about that - that's where you may find Shemi Dixon's fun tutorial video.

  15. Hello and thank you for stopping by and leaving a lovely comment. The blob is a craft mystery, could be a gel medium that wasn't shut tight. Nice idea of creating your own scrabble tiles.

    1. sabdra thank you! Actually the tile idea was my variation on a theme. Shemi Dixon's video at my prvious post tells the story. her idea was, "Why buy prepackaged tiles when I can make my own?" I liked her idea and took it in a Shel C direction using the Deli paper prints I made last year.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  16. Very late but no less pleased to see you at WOYWW! As for the blob - love your patience and tenacity in freeing it.. I'd have tossed the jar in the green bin. Or wrecked a pair of scissors trying to pick out the blob! See how different we are!

    1. Hi Julia! :) We could call it "tenacity," one supposes. I am naturally stubborn! Lolz I actually did try picking it out as you suggested, just not with scissors. Instead, I used a screwdriver. The stuff was too hard. I was worried that I'd break the jar. that's what led to the soaking that dragged on for days...and days...lolz. yup. That proves it. I am more stubborn than that chunk of gunk!

  17. Glad you sorted the blob out of the jar, a mystery indeed!
As for my embroidery, the patience I need is far more for my failing fingers due to what I can only think is arthritis otherwise it is a pleasure as I still love to stitch.
A bit behind here as I wasn't well earlier in the week, feeling a lot better now but still spotting so not fun at all!

    Thanks for the visit BJ#26

    1. BJ Thanks for taking the time, sore hands and all ! I really admire the embroidery you've done. So sorry to learn of that discomfort. There is a hand and body lotion that comes in a tube which contains MSM, a natural anti-inflammatory. It's not medicine. It's from plants and not a drug. Health food stores will often carry it. The brand name is *NOW*. The product name can be misleading: "MSM Healthy Skin." It is unscented.
I'd like to recommend trying it. It takes reapplying once hands get washed, being a lotion. But it has been working for me for years....some of the time. It can dull some of the pain for me quite nicely.
it isn't perfect. I just thought I'd offer it up as a suggestion.
      Let's meet up again soon!
      :)
