#WOYWW 513: Wonky Craft Storage

It's been many weeks since I last found the time to rejoin my favorite blog hop. I am looking forward to seeing what my fellow deskers have been up to lately. For those just joining the #WOYWW fun, please follow the link HERE to Queen of the Deskers, Ms Julia Dunnit's blog.

I will let the photos tell the final portion of the story, which began in early wintertime. It's a saga of many ups and downs, of very bad mistakes, and of the limitations one must learn to live with if one's sight has been damaged. Nine weeks it took me, along with weeks spent gathering information before then. In the end, I've just managed to make something useful, as planned.

Please forgive me if I do not read everything everyone else has to say this rime around. I will try and view everyone's pictures as much as able.

Here are the pics of an intrinsically flawed but usable mini chest of art supply storage drawers. This is one of the toughest challenges for me since the eyesight issue began. I hope to do better in future.

Better luck next time around, perhaps?
With 2 more to construct, I'll  very soon know the answer.

Here's the video I keep watching while I am learning.
It lists all dimensions and is pretty good.

  2. Sorry to hear you're having problems with your eyes....it makes you realise just how much we take these things for granted. I love your little chest of drawers, wonky or not.

    1. Thanks, Annie. It is a permanent eye problem, the Drs say. And it really is as you've said -- I now no longer take my eyesight and other faculties for granted. It's troublesome, but that won't stop me from trying my very best to create something now and then.
Refusing to give up is good.

  3. Your little chest of drawers is great and it looks fabulous - you've done a great job and who cares about a bit of wonkiness - it gives it individuality!

  7. I think that little chest of drawers is beautiful, and I get the feeling that its creaks etc are just its way of talking to you. Thank you for visiting me today and I hope your eyesight allows you a lot more crafting to come. xxx Maggie (Silvercrafter) #11

  8. One of our local supermarkets is dong a roaring trade in selling "wonky" produce. I keep looking at the fruit and wondering where and why it is wonky - much like looking at your drawers that look fine to me. If that is wonky I guess a lot of my stuff is too.
Sorry to hear about the sight issue though. Thinking of you.

    1. Hello Neet. Thanks for sharing your produce story with me. I've had mainly good luck buying such supposedly "wonky" produce, myself. Had to share a bit with a neighbor or two before it went off, but no great loss. So maybe the little chest is kind of like the colorful peppers I shared with neighbors. The thought is making me smile. :)

  10. I think that's gorgeous, Rose! And to think you did it with failing eyesight... I think you are amazing! Well done for keeping going and not giving up, and adding to beauty in the world with your lovely creation.

Thank you for your lovely comment, and I'm glad you think the slippers are "me"! I used to think I didn't really have a style, but I think I do really! I'm going to have fun embellishing them. It was a pleasure to share the picture of our kitties when they were tiny, as well - so precious as you say. It's a shame they have to grow up so fast.

    Happy WOYWW,

    1. Hi Shoshi Thank you for the lovely reply. I'd say that your style is colorful, whimsical and pretty, all at the same time. Hope those now grown kitties are healthy and playful as ever. They can remain kittens via playfulness past the expiration date for their kittenhood -- as I'm sure you know full well. Lolz

  11. HI Rose, I am not sure what can be done with the drawers? ( is it something pre made you were altering or something that started from scratch) either way I hope you are taking it easy on your eyes and taking it slowly. oh, and if the drawers are wood? maybe you could wax them? ( might make them glide with less sound effects was the random thought I had) ~Stacy #27

    1. Hello Stacy. Thank you for popping by. The drawers were made from scratch but the pattern belongs to the artist who did the video I am learning from. (Now below the last photo) Everything is made from chipboard and cardstock + adhesive. I like the wax idea. It might be worth a try!

    1. Hi LLJ What a nice thing to say. Thanks so much for stopping by. I promise you that once you would use these wonky drawers, the wonky parts would become fairly obvious not only to your eyes and ears but to your fingertips. Especially the groaning drawer which sticks Lolz ;)

    1. Thank you, Sandra for popping by. I appreciate the positive feedback. I'm assuming you're referring to the pattern that was already in the paper i chose, as I used no embossing techniques. Nice idea, though. I might try that!

  15. Well I think it’s a triumph! not wonky unless you look closely, and I know wonky too! mr Dunnit rubs a candle against the edges of drawers to stop them shrieking...worth a try?!I love the decoration you’ve added across the three drawers too, it’s really classy.

    1. Hi Julia! Thank you so much for stopping by. The wax idea sounds good to me, and I may have to try it before too long, or else learn how to put up with the groaning drawer's many noises. As for the decoration across the drawer fronts, that's all in some fun scrapbook paper that I hope to use some more of soon. :)

  16. These drawers look awesome! So what if they have a few flaws? You made them and have every right to be proud, especially with eyesight problems! I probably couldn't do any better, and I don't have sight issues. But glad things seem to be getting better, thanks for your visit, Lindart #29

  17. Hi there Stacy what great drawers as I can see the creaking as you pull them out they look truly superb,
I’d try the wax, it really works.
I use it on dies too, I keep a black out style white candle on my die cutting shelf to run over fussy dies too.
Thanks so much for sharing these,
    Happy belated WOYWW.
