Greetings everybody!
it's been a very long time since I last found the time to enjoy a Workdesk Wednesday. For any readers who might be new to this fun weekly blog hop, please follow the link to Ms Julia Dunnit's blog HERE.
There's news about my health, but I thought I'd first share with you a little process that I've invented. Each photo tells its part of the story. I hope you'll find it useful. This is an older project. I've been waiting for the right time to share it.

One of my "Scotchi Tapes" from a previous project.
Actually, it was a set of 4 small jars, not 3.
OK now for the boring, serious bit. I found out about a month ago that they really couldn't restore my left eye's sight. I kind of already had a sneaking hunch that was going to be the case, but it was not a relief to hear it. Too much nerve damage, they tell me.
There is a lingering possibility that a similar problem could eventually occur to my right eye as well. That fear factor is depressing, so I will say no more about that now. Suffice it to say, I am now being choosier than ever as to how I will spend my remaining eye strength. There is nothing so critical as this for me.
On the up side, however, there are to be no other intravenous high dose steroid treatments, so that's a relief in and of itself. The doctor's focus is now on keeping my remaining sight safe, so I will be needing glasses. These will act as a form of safety glasses for the purpose of keeping unwanted things from reaching either of my eyes.
I've never needed glasses prior to this trouble, so you won't find me complaining. At age 60, I'd say that has been a blessing.
NOTE: Please forgive me if I am unable to read everything or to respond to every comment or post. Rest assured, I am eager to see what everyone's been up to in my absence, and so intend visiting every participants' post this time around. Time to get started!
:)
Let's hope the glasses do their job... Thanks for the lovely comment :)
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW :)
Claire no. 1
great to see a post from you again despite the bad news about your eye. You sound very positive though which can only be a good thing. Have a good week. Helen #4
ReplyDeleteThank you, Helen. I can hardly believe it's been 19 weeks since I last attended a WOYWW.
Delete:)
Thanks Claire. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDelete:)
Rose, I am sorry to hear about your eye problems, as a crafter, eyesight is so precious. Any how that tape is fun, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my desk, and yes we are planning to use the studio, when we get it sorted, roof leaks at present, and we can't get anyone to come and make it waterproof.
Chris #2
Hi Mrs D
DeleteKind words do help. Thanks for caring.
Will look forward to viewing that studio space in future
Oh Rose, I'm so sorry to hear this news. For an artist, this is devastating. I hope that the glasses are going to prolong the time that you have useful sight n that eye. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Not having the steroids will be great, though - they have such awful effects on one's body, especially long-term, and it will be good to be without them.
ReplyDeleteI adore your beautiful tapes! So unusual and so pretty. The perfect pearls are the perfect finish!
Thank you for your visit and I'm so glad you like my scarf. As for the kitties, after being really stand-off-ish with me for ages, Ruby is suddenly all over me and affectionate this evening! Lol!
Happy WOYWW,

DeleteHello dear Shoshi
DeleteThank you for your kind words. All such things matter. <3
You are so right about the steroids. I hated taking those.
Glad you like my tape experiment. It was fun! I'll probably do things better with practice.
Your kitties a re precious and so big now too! my goodness how they've grown.
Wonder what's up with Ruby?
:)
Thanks for sharing about your eyes. My prayers go out to you and hope the glasses will help a lot. That's quite a process to make your Scotchi tape! WOW! Thanks for popping by!

Hello Carol
DeleteThanks for coming by. I really appreciate your prayers for me, so Thank You very much. Hope to see you again here in a few weeks!
xo
I can't believe it's so long but it's good to see you back. Sorry to hear about the eye problem and hope you can manage it. Have a great woyww, Angela x12x
ReplyDeleteHi Angela
DeleteI am amazed at how long it's been myself. Maybe in another few weeks I can join in once again? I do hope so! Thanks for the well wishes about my eye.
xoxo
Love how you have created your own washi tape, isn't it annoying when those little brushes shed their hair.
ReplyDeleteSad to hear about your eyesight but good to read your forward way of thinking. You truly have been blessed to reach 60 and not have needed glasses.
Fingers crossed they will be the fix that is needed and you can carry on creating.
Thank you for your lovely Anniversary wishes it's lovely to meet you here.
Happy WOYWW Best wishes Tracey #5
Hello Tracey
DeleteIt's been very nice meeting you here too.
You are so right - those brushes shed worse than my neighbor's cute cat!
The glasses are not corrective style lenses, only protective to keep my one good eye safer.
Thanks for Following too!
xoxo
This is a great tutorial, you are so detailed, that it makes it easy to understand exactly how you did it. Thank you! Blessings and prayers sent up for you.
ReplyDeleteLisa:
DeleteThanks for taking time away from that increasingly busy schedule of yours to stop by, and for your encouraging words as well. I so appreciate both the prayers and our friendship.
Hi Rose, Sending heaps of hugs (((Rose))). sorry you have had to come to terms with the loss of sight in one of your eyes. I lost one eye as a child and like you am very careful of my remaining eye.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your crafting.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Happy WOYWW
Sue #13
Bless you Sue - it is a very strange thing indeed to be sighted only on one side or the other, isn't it? My first anniversary of having this problem to live with will be in a couple of weeks. But I cannot imagine what it must have felt like for you to have lost half your eyesight so young. Any hints you may have about keeping my remaining eye safe would be appreciated.
DeleteAnd by all means, and come what may, let's both enjoy our crafting!
xoxo
I love your decorated tape technique - what a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your eye problems, I do feel for you and I know from personal experience how worrying it can be thinking long term about eye health.
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, I'm sorry I'm late in replying but yesterday was sooooo busy!!
Have a good week,
Diana x #15
Hi DIane
DeleteThanks for stopping by to see my tape story. It was fun making something different and learning throughout. I hope to try some different patterns sometime soon.
You know, I had no idea just how many ppl in the world do struggle with eye health issues before this happened to me. I appreciate my eyesight more than ever now, and am grateful for every day of sightedness that's left me.
xoxo.
While it's wonderful to see you back, I am most distressed to hear about your eye. Keep that other one in complete safety, my friend, and may it serve you for another sixty years. xo
ReplyDeleteHello, Win
DeleteYes, it is very distressing news, isn't it? Thanks for your well wishes. It's just a part of daily life now for me, one that I keep getting accustomed to. I guess there are some who have it a lot worse than i do.
xo
Goodness Rose, that must have been a huge blow to hear about your eye, I can't even begin to imagine how you feel. But you sound positive about protecting the remaining eye and sight and that seems a proactive thing to do. Now more than ever it's important to grab each day huh? I'm so glad the steroids have been stopped as they make you feel awful too so hopefully you'll feel the benefits of that. Keep on smiling lovely gal, we're all here for you.
ReplyDeleteHugs LLJ 9 xxx
Hello LLJ
DeleteThank you for coming by, as well as for your kind words. The news is still fairly fresh, and so I am still trying to wrap my head around it at this time. We'll see what the future holds. And you bet I am taking hold of each day more carefully than before.
How much time do I have left? Nobody knows. And how may years of remaining eyesight? Heaven only knows. I like to take it one day at a time for now, while I am still adjusting.
Just breathing is goos sometimes.
Hugs right back at you
xoxo
That's good, not "goos"
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your eyesight troubles, I hope your other eye stays fit and strong. Thank you for your tutorial, I must try that! Thanks for your visit, have a great week! Lindart #24
ReplyDeleteHi Lindart
DeleteThanks for the well wishes. I am pleased you liked my little tape story. It is a very fun process! See you again here in a few weeks!
Glad that you are taking part in WOYWW again. I am so sorry about your eyesight problems. This year I had cataract surgery in both eyes. I do not take my eyesight for granted. I hope that you are able to keep your eyesight in your other eye. You have a great outlook on the situation! It is wonderful that you can make your own custom scotchi tape; that is an amazing process. You did a good job explaining it too, thank you. Thank you, also, for stopping by already. Sorry I am late.
ReplyDeleteHello Sharon
DeleteIt is good to be back. I'd possibly have been back much sooner had it not been for a big swap project I was involved in, along with the news about my eyesight. It can take a while for me to adjust to certain things.
I like the idea of custom Scotchi tape as it allows more freedom with the design process. I appreciate the positive feedback.
Hope to see you again in a few weeks!
P.S. I was a bit late in posting, considering how many of us live in the UK, so no worries about lateness.
;)
Huh. For some reason I always assumed you were in your 20s or 30s. Apparently you have a very young attitude! :-) So sorry to hear about your eye, but so glad you still have some sight. Sending warmest wishes that it stays that way!
ReplyDeleteHi bfmama
Deleteoh my goodness! thank you for making me smile today! I needed that. "Twenties or thirties"? And here I'd kept thinking of myself as being an old fogey lady now Lolz
Thanks for the kind well wishes!
:)
So sorry to hear about the deteriorating sight (I know from personal experience and from my husband's poor health) how precious sight is ... hope you can stay as positive as possible and enjoy what level of sight you have. Thanks for sharing. Sorry I’m late commenting. Hope you have a good week. Hazel, WOYWW #17 x
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by, Hazel. I appreciate every kind thought. Sorry to hear that your husband has been experiencing health problems. I hope there's something that can be done that will help.
DeleteI am learning that maintaining morale is essential. Thank you for the well wishes. Such kindness really does count.
xo
I love the 'tutorial' you posted, I do make my own 'washi tape' every now and then by stamping and painting on 'paper tape' (the sort of tape a house-painter uses around the house, do you know what I mean? Do they have it in the US?)The technique you show is worth trying! Sorry to hear about your eye and yes please, keep the other one as safe as you can! Thanks for your visit to my blog earlier this week, happy belated woyww, have a great day! Hug from Holland, Marit #20
ReplyDeleteHello Marit
DeleteI'd enjoy seeing a picture or two of your own home made washi tape. Do you have any?
I really do love everybody's new ideas, don't you? :)
As for any Paper Tape used by house painters here in the states, I doubt that we have what you've mentioned. The tapes here are known as "masking" tapes or "painter's tape." They tend to be colorful, although some are a drab, pale pasty color. I have one roll on hand to use as removable tape as it does not damage some surfaces, but it is deep blue and is not made of paper. At least, it certainly does not feel or behave as paper would. It accepts paint, but also resists it, so that the paint flakes away easily.
Have you heard of Linen Tape? Bookbinders sometimes use it. I hear it is very hard to remove once it has been adhered.
Are you in Facebook? I'd love to keep in touch.
Hugs to you in return!
So good to see you back here Rose and thanks for such a fabulous and detailed tutorial. Sorry to hear the bad news about your left eye. Hope the glasses do their job and help and protect the right eye. Hugs! Sarah #19
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by, Sarah. It's always good to see you in our WOYWW bunch too. Glad you liked the tape story. Hope to see everyone here again in a few weeks, if not sooner.
Deletexo
Lovely to see you Rose. Your news makes me glum for you, but am here to reassure you that prioritising ‘eye use’ becomes second nature and I think the safety glasses are a great idea. Your scotch is tape is genius, how patient and clever you are!
ReplyDeleteHi Julia
DeleteAs always, you have just the right thing to say. What a gracious woman you must be in person. Thank you for your reassuring words. Very soon, it will be my 1st anniversary of when I lost most of the use of my left eye. Bless you for being so thoughtful.
xoxo
Oh bless you! It certainly made me think just how we should make the most of everything we have - especially at our age! I hope the glasses help. You sound so positive which is a blessing in itself. Take care - best wishes, Jo xx #29
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo.
DeleteSome days, I cannot help but just be thankful for every bit of ability that remains to be used, even tho' I feel worried at times.
xo
Hi Rose, it was good to hear from you again. So sorry to hear about your eyesight - I do hope they can save the other - I never needed glasses either up until just a few years ago and now I can't do anything close up without glasses - eyesight is so precious but most of us just take it for granted. Glad to see it hasn't stopped you from coming up with creative ideas like the "scotchy" tape! Take care xx
ReplyDeleteHello Zsuzsa!
DeleteI was looking for you during last week's WOYWW. Did I miss your entry somehow?
You're so right. I used to take eyesight very much for granted for decades. Thank goodness for helpful lenses!
xoxo
